How to Access the Notification Log on an Android Smartphone

This guide explains how to access the notification log on an Android smartphone. This guide is accurate for Android version 5 ('Lollipop'); other versions may vary. Manufacturers may relocate or remove this feature on your specific model of phone.

What does the notification log do?

The notification log allows you to see recent notifications received by your device, even if you swiped the notification away or opened it. You can use it to ensure 3rings app notifications are being successfully delivered to your device.

How to use the notification log

Step 1: Tap and hold on a blank area of your device's home screen

Step 2: When the home screen editing screen appears, tap 'Widgets'

Step 3: Scroll down to 'Settings' in the list of widgets, then tap and hold on the cog icon labelled 'Settings 1 × 1'. Keep holding until your home screen appears, then drop the settings widget wherever you like in the pale box.

Step 4: The 'Settings shortcut' screen appears. Scroll to 'Notification log' and tap it.

Step 5: You now have a notification log shortcut icon on your home screen. Tap it to open the log.

Step 6: In the notification log, the most recent notification (if any) received by the 3rings app is displayed. It may not be present if you've turned your phone off since the last 3rings notification was received. To the right of the 3rings entry, you can see the time your phone received the notification. Beneath the time, the word 'Dismissed' will be shown if you tapped on the notification to open the app, or swiped it away.

If you no longer want the notification log shortcut on your home screen

Tap and hold the notification log icon, then drag it to the 'remove' bar that appears at the top of the screen.
